Officers reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state initial examinations show the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
