The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
